Vatican City, a city-state in central Rome, Italy, is the heart of the Roman Catholic Church. In addition to being the seat of the Pontiff, it houses a collection of extraordinary works of art and architecture. In the Vatican Museums there are ancient Roman sculptures such as the famous Laocoon Group, as well as the Renaissance frescoes of the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel, famous for Michelangelo's frescoes.
